Paper is one of the most used materials in scrapbooking. The most common size paper used in scrapbooking would be 12×12 and I find that it’s the best size to use. 12×12 scrapbook paper can be bought in all different weights, finishes, types, colours and patterns. The range of 12×12 scrapbook paper available is unbelievably huge and I could spend hours looking through all the different designs and spend plenty of money buying some beautiful 12×12 scrapbook paper.
One thing you need to consider and remember when buying 12×12 scrapbook paper is that it needs to be acid and lignin free. This will help to ensure that your pages do not deteriorate over time and that your photographs don’t fade. So remember only use 12×12 scrapbook paper that is acid and lignin free.
A piece of 12×12 scrapbook paper is the basically the canvas on which you build up your scrapbooking page. This base piece of 12×12 scrapbook paper could be a plain piece of paper, a coloured piece or a patterned piece of paper. You can get 12×12 scrapbook paper that has glitter on it, flowers, swirls, squares, circles, you name it and I’m sure you could find it somewhere and if you can’t find it then you can always make it yourself from a piece of white 12×12 scrapbook paper.
12×12 scrapbook paper is also used as a material to build up your pages. You do this by cutting up the 12×12 paper into smaller pieces. You can do this by using a scissors, cutting knife or guillotine, just to mention a few.
I believe that there are two ways to buy your 12×12 scrapbook paper. You can go out shopping with the photos that you want to scrapbook in mind i.e. you have some sort of idea what you want your page to look like. The other way you can go out shopping for 12×12 scrapbook paper is with nothing in mind and just buy the 12×12 scrapbook papers that you like. I personally do a bit of each type. Sometimes I just find a beautiful piece of 12×12 scrapbook paper that I just have to buy. I might not use that 12×12 scrapbook paper for a few months or few years but I’m sure one day the perfect photo for that piece of 12×12 scrapbook paper will turn up. Once you start buying scrapbooking paper you will probably find it hard to stop and you will need to come up with a scrapbooking paper storage system.
You can buy 12×12 scrapbook paper piece by piece or you can buy the paper in a set. Buying in a set normally ends up cheaper but you need to decide if you are going to use all the sheets in the set. There is no point buying a set if you are only going to use one piece of paper out of it.
I like to shop for my 12×12 scrapbook paper when the store is having a sale. You can pick up some great bargains at a sale, especially a closing down sale. I once went to a scrapbooking store that was closing down and it had 50% off everything. I spent a fair bit of money at that store and I got some great buys.
You can shop for your 12×12 scrapbooking paper at a specialty scrapbooking shop, department stores, warehouses, craft shops or online stores. I personally do a bit of shopping at all of the places mentioned above. I think however my favourite way to shop is online.
When shopping online you can look on eBay or any other scrapbooking or craft store that sells scrapbooking stuff. I like shopping online because I can do it at home, at any time I want and I can search the net and find what store has the best price. There is one thing you need to be aware off when shopping online. You need to be aware of postage costs. You want to find a store that gives you free postage or make sure the postage cost is not high. I find that a lot of stores will give you free postage if you order over a certain dollar amount. So if you’re shopping online it is always good idea to order a heap of stuff at once.
