What is a Scrapbook Page Layout?
A scrapbooking page layout is basically the design of your scrapbooking page. It is where you are going to place your photos on your page, it is where you are going to place your embellishments and it is where you are going to place your titles and journaling. A scrapbooking sketch or layout is the rough plan of a scrapbooking page. It is a start and a beginning. It is something to expand on. It does not have to be a detailed plan but just show where pictures, embellishments and titles would or could be placed.
Tips for Scrapbook Page Layouts
- The best places to come up with ideas for scrapbook page layouts are in scrapbooking magazines, scrapbooking books and on scrapbooking websites. These are great resource and are where many of my ideas come from, especially in the beginning of my scrapbooking career.
- Let a theme rule your layout. By this I mean make sure all your photos on the page relate to each other and that theme. You wouldn’t want to mix photos from a trip to the zoo with photos to a trip to the beach from a year ago. You would make these 2 separate pages.
- Choose one photo to be the focal point. This main photo doesn’t have to be placed in the centre of the scrapbooking page, often it looks better if it is placed off centre or tilted slightly.
- Other photos should be placed in a spot that adds to the whole flow and balance of the page, this can be done by overlapping or angling photos.
- Don’t be scared to crop out unnecessary details in your photos
- The background you choose for your layout will decide the mood for the page. A good suggestion is to choose a colour that is in your photos
- When adding embellishments and accents to your page be careful not to overload it. This can take away focus from your main photo and make your page look cluttered. They should complement the focal point and not take over it.
You will over time learn what works and what doesn’t. As time goes on you will be able to make scrapbooking page layouts and scrapbooking pages quicker and quicker. You will learn your style and your favourite scrapbooking sketches and will use them over and over again.
